As the ice comes off more Minnesota lakes, safety officials are highlighting Saturday's start to National Safe Boating Week.
    
The St. Paul District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the best thing a person can do to stay safe on the water is to wear a life vest or personal flotation device.

Health Officials: Hepatitis C Test Needed for MN Baby Boomers

Attention baby boomers - have you been tested for hepatitis C lately?

The Minnesota Department of Health is reminding people born from 1945 through 1965 to be tested for hepatitis C. The reminder comes for national hepatitis awareness month.

Currently, about 39,000 people statewide are living with the virus.

Hennepin Co. Voting to Align Benefits With Freedom to Marry Bill

The Hennepin County Board of commissioners will vote to direct staff to align its policies, procedures, and employee benefit coverage to match the Freedom to Marry Bill on Tuesday.

On August 1, Hennepin County staff will be prepared to both process marriage applications for LGBT couples and extend benefit coverage to any married county employee.

Historic Mayoral Debate Set in Mpls

The first Somali-American Community’s Minneapolis Mayoral Candidates Forum will be held later this month.

This historic event is the first of its kind to be held in Minneapolis, according to organizers.

On May 31, at 6:00 p.m. five candidates in the race have agreed to the debate at Safari Restaurant and Event Center.

The city sold 1,000 saplings for $25 each, which will be available for pickup starting 7 a.m. Saturday at the Minneapolis Impound Lot, 51 Colfax Ave. N.

Community Vigil for N. Minneapolis Deadly Shooting Victim

A community vigil will be held Saturday for a 23-year-old Minneapolis man who was killed in front of four children in a North Minneapolis home.

According to police, Jeremiah Cornel Curtis was killed May 10 by Eddie Hubbard, 52, who has been charged with second-degree murder and four counts of second-degree assault.
